Like its predecessors, ffxiv data centres is a role-playing game to be used with consoles. It was first released in Japan for its Playstation 3 in December 2009 and March 2010 saw its release to the rest of the world on the Playstation 3 and additionally the Xbox 360. It has been well received, as have all the matches in this series and the die-hard fans rate it as the best ever. There are, however, those who view it as a game too far and that instead of bringing something new it is simply a revamp of what has gone before.
The largest change since the previous instalment was in the battle system. To attempt to maintain the tactical struggles feeling refreshing, it has tried to recreate the techniques used at the FF VII, with a couple of twists. Unlike ffxiv world status, if you encounter enemies that you don’t fight them there and then, you are transported to a separate battle screen, away from the main playing area. There’s the welcome return of the ATB (active time battle), however the difference is that you could link together a series of commands to make an attack, and so receive attack bonuses.
The Role system exists, so that every one of the characters benefits from different weaknesses and strengths, and aren`t all the same. A bid deal has been made of the is the marketing effort, but to tell the truth, it must come as standard, as what fun is there’s commanding lots of different characters that all possess the same attributes?
There’s a brand new purification system in FF XIII, known as the Crystarium System. This is similar to the Sphere Grid which was a big feature of FFX, but rather than gaining experience points after you have dispensed with an enemy, you now have CP (Crystogen Points) which may be stored up and subsequently spent various attributes, maximizing your HP such as. Each participant has their own Crystarium, also it includes segments which correspond to the functions which the character has available to them. The Crystariums are not there in the beginning, and are reached by earning your way through the chain of stories. As you go on, an increasing number of levels are unlocked until you arrive at the maximum that your character can attain. You begin with the option of three specialist places to your personality, and then more functions are unlocked.
The setting for FF XIII is a world called Pulse, which will be home to a race of mechanical beings called the fal’Cie. They have god like powers and comprise crystals which effectively control them. They set their sights on various personalities, which are called l`Cie. All these have jobs to do and goals the fal’Cie have given themand of course, its your responsibility to figure out what these are and stop them .
Overall, this is a fun game with a lot going for it. The images are, as ever, exemplary, as well as the characters a great deal of fun to command. It just has a feeling of finality about it, which might be no bad thing. This series must come to an end earlier or laterFeature Articles, maybe this really is a fitting closing ffxiv data center split.
